| June 12, 2021: Ron Heiden is organizing a reunion get
together for ex colleagues at the Indaba Hotel on William Nicol Drive
in Johannesburg. Tentatively, this will be on Saturday, September 25.
If you can make it, please let Ron know or, you can do this via
me. We are all getting older so these opportunities are getting
harder to organize etc. Ron understands that there might be some
who would love to atrtend, but might not be able due to financial
constraints. He has suggested a kitty to confidentially help
anyone who just cannot afford to make it and pay for hotel etc.
Some have already committed to helping with a kitty. If you
are able to pay your way and can afford to help with the kitty, this
would be greatly appreciated. Ron has made the commitment of at
least 40 folks so we need as many as possible to let Ron know as soon
as possible if you can make it. Please contact Ron directly or
feel free to communicate through me. Would love to be there
myself, but logistics make it impossible. I expect many pictures
so some can be posted in one of the photo albums - probably one
dedicated to this reunion. I will post this on Facebook and will
send a message to all excustomsnet members. |

| April 5, 2020: Received the sad news from Kevin Milne that his wife, Minta,
passed away April 4, 2020. They celebrated their 54th wedding
anniversary in February. Kevin and daughter, Jen, saw her just
after her passing and she was at peace. Minta is survived by Kevin, her two incredible daughters
Debbie and Jen, as well as 5 fantastic grandchildren and we all adored
her. |
November 23, 2019: It with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Geoff Hall. The following email was received from Lindsay & Stu Baisley:
"It is with great sadness and regret that I have to inform you that Geoff
Hall has just passed away this evening after a long struggle, but
bravely born at his age of 91 years. He is now at peace.
Arthur could I ask you to please pass this on to the ex customs net.

cancer. Liz had been struggling with various health issues for

passed away April 6, 2019. Information was received from his
niece, Mandi Cooper via Ray Scott. Sincere condolences to Mandi

May 5, 2018: Received the sad news for Andre Guernier that Dave Collis
passed away in Brisbane, Australia on May 4, 2018 after a short
illness. He was just 6 months from his 80th birthday. Our
sincere condolences to Trish (his wife of 57 years) and to their

Hi Arthur,
Received
the sad news, below, that my great friend Dave Collis passed away
peacefully yesterday morning (4 May 2018), in Brisbane Australia,
following a short illness. He was just six months short of his 80th birthday.
Dave
joined Customs in early 1956 and started work at the Bulawayo Office
under the then Collector Bla Lovemore which is where I first met Dave.
As young guys Dave, Harry Bowler, Dave Sanders and myself spent much of
our spare time exploring the Matopos and the surrounding countryside.
This was followed by two together at Beitbridge cementing our
relationship even further. Dave became a lifelong friend for me and
will be dearly missed.
My condolences go to Trish, his wife of 57 years, and to Geoff and Cindy, their two children , and to their respective families.
Arthur,
please could you forward this message to the rest of the Customs
family. Also, advise those who may wish to attend, that there will be a
funeral service at the Great Northern Crematorium in Deception Bay,
Brisbane, at 10 am on Thursday 10 May 2018.
I
will be putting together a short message about Dave and his life in

Some
uplifting news for a change. I heard from Lindsay & Stu
Baisley that Geoff Hall celebrates his 90th Birthday today (May 1st). I am told that Geoff is "Still healthy well and happy, going for his century". This
is great news and I'm sure everyone joins me in offering our heartiest
Congratulations.

Received the sad news from Doug Jolliffe via Facebook that Denise Jolliffe passed away March 27, 2018. The message from Doug reads as follows:
"My heartfelt thanks for all the kind messages of support for Denise.
She lost the fight, at home, on 27th March and we had her funeral yesterday.
Our girls arrived a few days before so we were all together to say our goodbyes."

Coranne Roper (wife of Pat) is in need of your prayers. She is
scheduled for brain surgery on Tuesday to remove what we hope is a
benign tumor. Coranne is in hospital and unable to walk unaided.
They were in Venice recently and Coranne began to experience
imbalance and had some falls.

Some sad news to report on Andy Vaughan. We received a report that Andy was ill from Alan Smith (some of you might know Alan from C.A.A.then Parry Leon and Hayhoe, then Manica Air Cargo). John Austin (Aussie) followed up with Gael and and gave the following report:
"ANDY MEDREP 1. It
seems Andy suffered a temporary speech loss in January. He was referred
to Mr GUNNING whom I think is a heart man, and the problem seemed to do
with an artery. 2. Last Thursday (5th Feb), his daughter Alison noticed his speech had deteriorated markedly, becoming very slurred, and he was taken to hospital. 3. It
transpires that Andy had developed (undiagnosed?) lung cancer, of a
particularly aggressive nature, and which has/had now also moved into
his brain. 4. He remains in St Anne’s Hospital in a private ward & an allocated private nurse. 5. It is my understanding remission is neither expected nor likely. Andy
& Gael have two adult children (Richard & Alison) and a
granddaughter to Alison. Alison is in Harare still, whereas Richard is
in Safari work in Tanzania, I believe. It may be of interest to some
that Gael has always been a committed Christian (Catholic) and that she
shared with me that Andy too has come to love our Lord. Please
feel encouraged to pass on any messages, thoughts, prayers, etc to Andy
& family by email to Gael directly. We feel for them all &
pray strength and comfort in their journey through this phase".

More good news in that Mike is now home again but immobile and taking an
interest in everything thanks to the great work done by his physician
and the Avenues ICU team.

Update on Mike Shaw from John Glynn:
Some good news on the Mike Shaw situation in that he has been taken out of
ICU and is back into a medical ward. He is now lucid and talking again.
Some 12 donors have now been located on the blood issue and although he is
not out of the woods yet there is a definite improvement under the care of
a Professor who has taken over his case and who saw him through his last

received the email below from Niki yesterday (Sun). Please
note that she is very busy so please rely on this web page for updates.
Niki will try to keep me updated and I will post any updates here:
Many thanks for getting in touch and
trying to rally the troups. The crucial thing is that you have to be an
existing REGISTERED Donor with the ZIM BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE and go there
to donate. I have had contact from loads of wonderful people who are
“O”NEG but, sadly not registered and unable to help.
Mike has had 4 pints over the last 24 hrs
and will probably need some more later today. This has improved the situation slightly
as he is now semi conscious instead of being in a coma and was able to say
hello to me today, and I will take any goods news right now, however
small. We estimate that our appeal

son Gavin recently returned from Oz to take up residence again in Zim and he is
a real brick. Sadly our daughter is in Tasmania and it’s really hard on
her being so far away. Mike has not
been in good health for a while and this calamity has not been a surprise
– nevertheless it still hits you in the guts. Can’t thank you enough for all
your efforts,

| It is with great sadness that I have report the passing of David Anthony Varndell on April 16. The news came from John (Aussie) Austin by way of email. I have posted this entire email on the We Remember Part 2 Page
